Welcome to Chicago

First off, to everyone who's traveling to celebrate with us:

Thank You

We are thrilled to gather all of our favorite people in Chicago to celebrate our love.

TL;DR: We have 3 hotel blocks at 3 price points (before taxes):

For those traveling by air you'll most likely fly into O'Hare (ORD), but you can also fly into Midway (MDW). Chicago has great public transit and abundant Ubers/lyfts/taxis so you do not need to rent a car. All of the hotels on the list are accessible by train directly from O’Hare.

Transit

Chicago has excellent and easy to use public transit. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) runs of Chicago's public transit. All CTA trains and busses support tap to pay, so you can tap your credit card or phone to pay for train rides. If you like collecting transit cards, or you don't want to fuss with tap to pay, the CTA transit card is Ventra.

CTA Map

Chicago's city planning is optimized around getting people in and out of downtown. As a result all the train lines do a big loop around the downtown area and therefore Chicagoans refer to it as: The Loop. The trainlines that form The Loop are mostly elevated and are therefore are refered to as The L.

The Loop is where you'll find the tourist attractions, museums, architecture tours, The Bean, etc. To give you a point of reference. The Robey is right off of the Daemen stop on the Blue Line (the L). The Garfield Park Conservatory (our ceremony venue) is right off of the Green Line's Conservatory - Central Park Drive stop. The Hampton Inn is right off of the Blue Line's Western stop.

Hotel

If you use the links we provide you'll get a ~20% discount, depending on the hotel.

We're providing 3 options for hotel blocks. We tried to cover different price points and requirements, so please coordinate amongst yourselves and choose the one that best fits the Chicago experience you're looking for. All the hotels we've found are on the Blue Line, which should make getting to and from the loop or the Airport simple.

Option 1: The Hampton Inn

At ~$150 a night, we felt this was the best deal we could find that was:

As an added bonus it is new construction.

The downside is that the location is near an interstate and a hospital so the immediate neighborhood doesn't cater as well to tourist traffic.

Travel times

O'Hare Midway Venue The Loop
Transit ~1 hr ~50 min (requires transfer) N/A 25 min
Car 50 min 34 min 8 min 11 min

Per night (Friday & Saturday) cost before tax: ~$150

Option 2: The Hyatt Wicker Park

This is our midrange option. It's walking distance to The Robey and so you'll still have easy access to the cute coffee shops, thrifting, and trendy bars in Wicker Park. It's a great option if you want to be a little closer to us, but don't want to pay The Robey prices.

We wanted to experience a unique Hotel for our wedding day and we landed on The Robey. This is where our wedding parties and immediate family will be staying. For cost reasons, we were conservative with our hotel block, but we're more than happy to negotiate more rooms if there is interest. Flying

There are 2 options for flying into Chicago.

  1. O'Hare (ORD)
  2. Midway (MDW)

O'Hare

O'Hare is a very large airport with large airport problems. If your flight leaves at a busy time there can be long security lines and walking to your terminal can be a workout. However, there are tons of flights going in and out of O'Hare, which means it’s usually the cheaper option. O'Hare is on the Blue Line will take you almost directly to your hotel, but see more on that in the Hotel block section.

Midway

Midway is a much smaller airport than O'Hare, so navigating the Airport is a bit easier. It's not far from the hotels we've chosen, but if you're looking to take public transit, which we recommend, expect to require a transfer.
